What is Dialect?

Dialect by Aristar, Inc. is an general-purpose, object oriented programming language with GUI and network support. It is an interpreter that runs on Windows 9.x / NT and Windows CE (HPC and PPC) platforms. The source (.d) and bytecode (.dc) files are compatible among the platforms. Dialect is free under the Apache license and available on SourceForge.

The Dialect Programs Index is a web-based database that allows authors to share and users to find dialect programs on the web. Authors with an own web space should store their contributions on their website and add a link to them in the Index. Authors without web space can send their contributions to me and I will put them on my website.

Here are some Dialect applications that can be found in the Index:

• Spell-it: Spells words in the IAA (international aviation alphabet) or some user specified alphabet
• SecretSafe: Password management application
• Guilect: tool to easily create a GUI for your apps
• FotoMan: image organizer
• NsLookup: graphical NsLookup
• IpScan: IP sweeper and port scanner

What is Ewe?

Ewe by www.ewesoft.com is a Java implementation with a strong but small GUI that is intended to work also on small devices like PDAs. There is a native VM for many plattforms, e.g. Windows, Windows CE, Linux. For not directly supported plattforms, the Ewe VM can be started as standard Java application.

Eve by www.ewesoft.com is the exciting successor of the Ewe VM. It is much more Java compliant and supports many new features.

Do you want to develop Eve/Ewe Applications on the Pocket PC? Don't believe that this is impossible - it IS possible and all is free! Here's what you need:

• Ewe stuff: VM, SDK (classes)
• Java compiler: javac
• SUN Personal Java VM for the compiler: pjava 1.1 beta
• GUI for the compiler: taJCwrapper
• Programmer's editor: tPad (download from Eve Programs Index)
